Mandate

A Shopify Redesign Unifying B2C and B2B Experiences with SparkLayer

Novatize supported Gladius in redesigning its eCommerce environment to support international growth while bringing its B2C and B2B operations together on a single Shopify platform. The goal was to centralize operations, simplify commerce management, and deliver a consistent experience that reflects Gladius’s position as a leader in the board game industry.

To meet the needs of its business customers while maintaining the consumer shopping experience, Gladius integrated a B2B portal directly into Shopify. This approach gives retailers a seamless purchasing experience tailored to their needs while allowing the company to manage its B2C and B2B operations from one platform.

Key features implemented include:

  • Dynamic content management: The website now displays tailored content based on whether the logged-in customer is a B2C or B2B buyer, providing a relevant browsing experience for each audience.
  • Customer-specific pricing and promotions: Prices can be set for specific customer groups, reflecting the unique supply agreements between Gladius and its B2B partners.
  • An optimized B2B ordering process: The checkout automatically adapts to the user’s profile.
  • Advanced product visibility management: Selected products can be displayed exclusively to a customer segment, either B2C or B2B, allowing Gladius to tailor its catalogue to each buyer type.
  • Enriched product information for B2B accounts: When business customers log in, they can access specific information such as units per case and the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), helping them make informed wholesale purchasing decisions.
Objective

Increase Online Sales with a Shopping Experience That Reflects the Brand Across Customer Types

As part of its growth, Gladius wanted to evolve its eCommerce platform to meet the needs of both consumers and its retailer network. The company sought to better showcase its extensive product catalogue, personalize the experience for each customer type, and centralize its B2C and B2B operations within a single Shopify environment.

The new platform needed to deliver a more relevant purchasing journey for each audience, improve product discoverability, and support the company’s growth objectives.

Results

A Higher-Performing Platform That Streamlines Daily Operations and Supports Sales Across Customer Types

The first phase of the Shopify website redesign improved the online shopping experience for Gladius’s B2C customers through search by brand, category, or number of players. It also introduced dedicated product sections, such as “Gift Ideas” and “Learning Corner,” featuring products grouped by educational focus, including fine motor skills, emotional development, and memory.

The second phase of the project focused on supporting B2B buyers by providing a dedicated business customer account experience alongside B2C accounts. This included distinct navigation and content, product pages with additional information such as case quantities and inventory availability, and dynamic pricing based on supply agreements signed with Gladius.

With this versatile new website, Gladius is ready to welcome more customers, increase sales, and continue representing Québec across Canada and internationally.
